One of my family’s favorite things to do during the summer is go to the beach.  We always have a blast swimming in the water, eating our picnic lunch, and playing on the beach.  My toddler especially loves to play in the sand with all of this sand toys.  From making car tracks to drawing pictures, he can spends hours coming up with all sorts of different creations.  Since we can’t always make it to the beach, I thought that it would be fun for my toddler to use his sand toys with one of his other favorite activities – painting!  So, I pulled out our large roll of paper, paint, and sand toys and let him explore and create a Sand Toy Painting.

How To Create A Sand Toy Painting:

Supplies:

  • Large Roll of Paper
  • Paint
  • Paper Plates
  • Sand Toys

Set-Up:

  • Unroll the paper onto your driveway, patio, or another large area where your child can paint.  You can use a roll of white paper, butcher paper, or even poster board.

* If you live in a windy area like I do, you may want to tape the paper to your driveway with duct tape or place heavy objects on the corners of the paper to prevent it from blowing away.

  • Pour each color of paint onto a paper plate.

Directions:

  • Select a sand toy and place it into the paint.  Make sure that the toy is coated with the paint.
  • Place the toy onto the paper and begin to paint.

This painting activity can also be done on a smaller scale inside your home or classroom.  You can simply roll the paper out onto a table, title floor, or other work surface.
